
College Research Grant for Journalism Ethics: $2,500
The Society of Professional Journalists invites students and professors to propose research into journalism ethics on campus. The accepted project will receive $2,500 in unrestricted funds, and the results will be covered by SPJ and promoted to its 100,000 social media followers and members.
Program statement
SPJ is the nation’s oldest and largest journalism membership organization, and its Code of Ethics is the industry’s standard. SPJ seeks to understand how journalism ethics are perceived today on college campuses.
Areas of interest
SPJ seeks research revealing insights into any of the following:
- How do college students today view journalism ethics compared to the past?
- How often do journalism schools teach ethics today compared to the past?
- How do student media outlets handle ethics today compared to the past?
Eligibility
Any professor, staff member, or student at a public or private two-year or four-year school can apply.
Deadline
All proposals are due by 11:59 pm Friday, March 21, 2025. Proposals must be submitted through the link below.
Review process
All proposals will be reviewed, and one selected, by the SPJ Ethics Committee. The selection will be confirmed by SPJ’s national president. The winner will be announced during SPJ Ethics Week, April 14-18, 2025.
