Play ethical poker
Ethics Hold’em is Texas Hold’em with a twist. All Texas Hold’em rules apply, with a few extras tossed in…
The deck of cards
You play with a special deck designed by SPJ – and you can get one for free. More on that below.
The face of each card contains an excerpt from SPJ’s Code of Ethics. Since there are more cards in a deck than entries in the Code, some entries are repeated.
As you’re playing, find the matches either in your hand or on the table. You’ll win extra poker chips that’ll keep you in the game longer – and competing for the grand prize.

The rules
Thankfully, there are only a few.
Once you open the custom deck, you’ll notice that the entries from the Code of Ethics come in four colors. These represent the four sections of the Code and the four suits of the deck.
The title of each color-coded section is located on the ace. For example, the Ace of Diamonds reads, “Act Independently” in blue, and all excerpts under that section are in blue. This helps you find a match.
Confused? We can explain it more and better if you’ll let us send you a free deck – because we want you to host a game.
Getting a deck
Play Ethics Hold’em during Ethics Week and we’ll give you a grand prize: $500 to one lucky host who posts the best documentation of their game. Winner will be announced during Ethics Week (April 14-18).
