  • What you win: SPJ’s Ethics Committee will choose the best Ethics Hold’em social post and send three winners $100.

When unethical is ethical

SIN stands for Spread Immoral News. Designed for college and high school publications – although we’d love to see a pro pub do it – SIN goes all in on being unethical. Read more about the concept here. Then…

  • What you do: On April 1 or as close to that date as possible, publish a completely unethical edition of your publication.
  • What you get: You want to be unethical, not illegal. If you have any doubts about what you’re writing, contact us and we can match you with a First Amendment attorney for a free pre-publication review.
  • What you win: Send us a URL or a PDF of your SIN edition by April 10 at 11:59:59 pm Eastern time, and the Ethics Committee will choose the best one during Ethics Week. That staff receives $500.

Win a research grant

SPJ invites college researchers to propose topics for study. Read more about the grant here.

What you win: $2,500 to conduct your approved research project. Announced during Ethics Week.

What you do: Apply for the grant by March 22, 2025.

What you get: We want you to succeed, so feel free to contact us below with any questions. We’ll help best we can.
